Global Missions Conference

On Friday I flew to Greenville, SC, for the Global Missions Conference. This was a joint effort of RUF and Mission to the World, the foreign mission agency of the Presbyterian Church in America. This was the fifth missions conference our denomination has held, and the first jointly produced with RUF. It was a fantastic weekend!

I don't have any official statistics, but it appeared to me that there were about 1,000 people, half students. For a denomination the size of the PCA and a student ministry the size of RUF this is great! It was especially good considering that this is the end of the semester, and most students will be feeling the crunch of school work. Derek Bates from Pittsburgh was there with a dozen of his RUF students.

The main speakers were outstanding. We saw remarkable videos highlighting different facets of missions. There was a wide range of seminars and some special events. I was very impressed to see how much ministry is happening in sensitive areas of the world.

One of the best parts for me was seeing friends who are ministering elsewhere in the world. I attended the lunch sponsored by the church planting team in Monterrey, Mexico. They are longing for an RUF minister to serve two very strategic campuses in Monterrey, but so far we have not been able to find anyone to go there.

I hope we can do this on a regular basis. Such a conference can be a powerful force for global missions. Can you take a minute now to pray that God would move many who attended this conference to become missionaries?
