Maryland serving in Missouri

Maryland RUF took a January mission trip to St. Louis, MO from January 10th through 15th working under New City Fellowship (PCA) a church committed to the Gospel expressing itself in racial reconciliation and ministry to the poor for over 20 years. It was a joy for me to bring students to the church I attended while in St. Louis in the 90s. Just a few miles from Ferguson our students got to see first hand how the Gospel applies itself to the real needs of the city and urban poor as we came along side them to learn and serve. Students were able to meet many members of the church, sit in their homes and hear stories of what it means to minister in word and deed. Pastoral staff taught each morning on the Gospel of the kingdom in an urban context. We also worked with Sun Ministries (a New City partner) as they seek to redevelop the blighted and boarded up Hyde Park neighborhood. We saw first hand a team of missionaries serving a pretty devastated area by establishing a new cafe where they have created good jobs to bring dignity and hope to residents' lives through employment. The tangible expressions of the applications of the Gospel really impacted my students and two (one brand new to our RUF ministry) are considering going back to work a college internship with New City in the summer.
