A New Beginning

"But when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth his Son, born of woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons. And because you are sons, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, crying, "'Abba! Father!'" Galatians 4:4-6

It's Christmastide, and we're celebrating a new beginning! Man struggled and failed to fulfill his destiny as sons of God, so God came as a man to start over. Jesus is the beginning of the new redeemed race of man in which all who believe in Him partake of the divine glory as sons of the Father. And we have the joy of proclaiming this amazing good news to the whole world!

An alumna of Lehigh University RUF was in town last week, and Ruth and I spent the afternoon with her. She arrived in the U.S. from China and participated in RUF for one year as an exchange student. She grew in the Lord, made friends, joined a church, and returned to China. Since then she has earned a couple of masters degrees and worked in several cities in both hemispheres, always seeking Christian fellowship wherever she went. Now ten years later we see a mature, growing Christian woman who is ministering to others wherever she goes.

This is what Christmas is all about! God, meeting spiritual wanderers, bringing them into His home, treating them as sons and daughters, giving them a new beginning, and maturing them to welcome other wanderers. And we all were wanderers. All of us were at one time evil sheep fleeing our Shepherd - so our Shepherd laid aside His glory, came after us, and gave us a fresh start as new men. Praise God! What a story! What a joy to be able to tell everyone the story of Christmas!
