September 24, 2012 -- From Alabama to Pittsburgh

The last two weeks have been a whirlwind, and I expect the next several will be the same. The middle of October should be a little more manageable. Pray for us!

I last left you as I was flying to Atlanta for a meeting of RUF Coordinators. One of our biggest topics of discussion was recommending new ministers for placement at campuses without ministers or soon to be so. This year we have an unusual number of campuses open or about to be open. Providentially, we also have an unusually large number of potential campus ministers. Pray for God to place the right men in the right campuses.

After the coordinators meeting I flew to Mobile Alabama to see Lanier and Leslie Wood. I had never been to Mobile, so this was exciting. Lanier is in his second year as the RUF minister at University of South Alabama. He started the ministry last year, but health issues interfered. This year he is doing great! We talked about how to gather students and form them into a group. I had a wonderful time.

I have a new office assistant! Karen Brown got her "dream job" teaching biology at the local Christian high school and had to leave us. Mary Ann Truscott will be my new assistant, and I spent Friday morning orienting her to our office. Welcome Mary Ann!

Last week I visited Penn State and University of Pittsburgh. Both of these ministries have been steadily growing, and I was eager to see if this is still the case. I am happy to report that it is. I attended two freshmen Bible studies with Alex at Penn State, and the Large Group meeting with Derek at Pitt - and met engaging students at each. (The picture is of the Pitt Large Group meeting.) Both groups will continue to grow, but at a slower pace unless they sharpen their leadership training and substantially handover more responsibilities to the students. How to do this occupied a good bit of our discussion. Pray for skill and wisdom as Alex and Derek work with these two groups.

This week I am in Iowa and Nebraska visiting Steve Allen and Josh Vahle. • 610-691-0988 • 631 Fourth Avenue, Bethlehem, PA 18018
